About Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is the world’s 9th largest country and Central Asia’s largest developed economy that is politically stable and influential throughout the region.

Kazakhstan’s main trading partners in terms of exports are Russia, Germany, China, Italy, France, Romania and the USA. In 2000, Kazakhstan became the first of the former Soviet republics to repay all of its debts to the IMF.

Kazakhstan’s leading economic sector is energy, which in 2010 accounted for 75% of exports and 52% of GDP. The oil and gas industry, whose share in total GDP increased from 10.9% in 2001 to 22.3% in 2009, plays a vital role in the Kazakhstan’s GDP structure.

Since 1993, the development of petroleum, natural gas, and mineral extraction, attracted almost $40billion in foreign investment. In 2010 Kazakhstan produced approximately 1.71million barrels of oil per day. This figure is expected to grow to 3.5million barrels of oil per day by 2015, placing it in the top ten crude oil export countries in the world.
